What it is.
Amplitude's free plan runs on 2 million events a month, forever, with no credit card, and every plan includes unlimited seats. The founder, the PM, plus the marketer all read the same chart.
Session replay, feature flags, plus web experiments come with the free plan too. For an early product that's a full measurement stack, and the 2 million event ceiling is generous enough that most B2B products take a year to reach it.
What you get.
- 2 million events a month, free forever, with no credit card.
- Unlimited seats, so the analyst and the marketer share one workspace.
- Retention and funnel charts built in, which answers activation without SQL.
- Session replay and unlimited feature flags included on the free plan.
How to set it up.
Install the SDK and identify logged-in users, so events attach to a person and not a browser.
Agree the event names with engineering in writing before the first event fires.
Build the signup funnel first, then the funnel for your core action, and leave everything else alone.
Add a retention chart on the core action, because a funnel shows people signed up and only retention shows they stayed.
Watch the event count in month two, because autocapture-style tracking eats 2 million events faster than a planned scheme.

Use cases
Put the whole team in the data
Invite the marketer and the analyst, since seats cost nothing on the free plan.
Retention without a build
Use the built-in charts instead of waiting on a custom report.
Funnel on the signup flow
Send the steps as events and read where people fall out.
Best for
A product before its first analyst
Unlimited seats means the founder, the PM and the marketer all look at the same charts without a license conversation.
Measuring activation
Retention and funnel charts are built in, so you can answer whether new accounts come back without writing SQL.
Teams already on GA4
GA4 tells you where the visit came from, and this tells you what the account did once it signed up.
