What it is.

You give it a page URL, the page type, one conversion goal and where the traffic comes from. It audits across dimensions in order of impact and hands the findings back in that same order.

Value proposition clarity comes first, tested by whether a visitor can say what this is and why they should care within 5 seconds in their own words. Feature-focused copy and cleverness that costs comprehension are the two named failures.

What you get.

  • A page audit ordered by impact instead of by page position
  • A 5-second comprehension test on the value proposition
  • Headline evaluation against the core proposition
  • Recommendations keyed to the page type and the conversion goal
  • Traffic context factored in, since paid and organic visitors arrive differently
HOW TO USE IT

How to set it up.

1

Install with npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill cro -a claude-code.

2

Name the page type and the one conversion goal. A page with two goals audits badly and converts worse.

3

Say where the traffic comes from. A paid visitor arrives with different context than someone from organic search.

4

Run the 5-second test before anything else. If a stranger cannot say what the page is, every finding under it depends on the same broken sentence.

5

Check the headline against the proposition, not against your brand voice. Specificity beats cleverness here.

6

Take the recommendations in the order given, because they are sorted by impact and not by where they sit on the page.

Use cases

Traffic with no conversions

The page gets steady visits and nothing converts. Hand over the URL, the page type, the conversion goal and the traffic source, and the audit opens with the five-second comprehension test, with every finding below it ordered by impact.

Settling the redesign argument

The team disagrees on what to change first. The findings arrive sorted by impact, never by page position, which settles the order of work.

A pricing page audit

Pricing pages carry different goals than landing pages. Name the page type and the recommendations key to it, with the headline judged against the core proposition.

Tuning a paid landing page

Paid visitors arrive carrying ad context that organic visitors lack. Say the traffic is paid and the audit factors that arrival context into every finding.

Best for

A page that gets traffic and no conversions

The impact ordering means you work the value proposition first, which is where the answer usually is.

Arguments about page changes

An ordered audit gives you a reason to do one thing before another, which settles most of them.

A pricing or feature page

It covers page types beyond landing pages, and the goals differ per type.

Questions about Content & Creative

Where should a page audit start?
Do best-practice changes work?
Strengths
  • Orders findings by impact, so the first recommendation is the one worth doing.
  • The 5-second test is a check anyone can run without a tool.
  • Asks for traffic source, which changes what a page has to explain.
  • Draws clear boundaries to signup, onboarding and popups.
Limitations
  • It audits and it will not test. Validation goes to ab-testing, which needs traffic volume.
  • No heatmap or session data behind it, so behavioral evidence has to come from you.
  • It reads a page and cannot see what your visitors did on it.
Skip this if
  • Skip it if your page audits are already ordered by impact.
