What it is.
One unfocused review misses more than several focused ones, so the skill runs 7 named sweeps in order: clarity, voice and tone, so what, prove it, specificity, heightened emotion, zero risk.
After each sweep it loops back to confirm the earlier ones still hold, which is the part a human editor usually skips when a late change breaks an early decision.
It edits instead of rewrites. The stated rule is to preserve the author's voice and the core message, and to give each change a reason, which makes the output reviewable instead of a diff you either accept or reject wholesale.
What you get.
- Seven sequential editing passes, each scoped to one dimension
- A stated reason attached to each change, so you can argue with it
- An expert panel scoring block for a second read on the finished copy
- A quick-pass checklist for when a full sweep set is too slow
- A content refresh path for pages that went out of date
How to set it up.
Install with npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill copy-editing -a claude-code.
Give it the copy and say whether you want the full sweep set or the quick pass.
Let it run sweeps in order. Clarity first is deliberate, because a sharper sentence often removes the problem a later sweep would have flagged.
Ask for the reason on any change you disagree with. Every edit is meant to carry one.
Use the prove-it sweep to catch claims with no evidence behind them, which is where most product pages leak trust.
Finish with the expert panel scoring block when the copy is going in front of a stakeholder.

Use cases
The pass before sign-off
The page copy is due in front of a client. Give it the draft and ask for the full sweep set, and it comes back with a stated reason on every change plus the expert panel scoring block as a final read.
Editing a teammate's draft
The argument is sound but the sentences are doing too much work, and you don't want to steamroll the author. The sweeps edit inside the author's voice and each change carries a reason, so the hand-back stays a conversation.
A deadline quick pass
The email goes out in an hour. Ask for the quick-pass checklist and you get the big catches without waiting on all seven sweeps.
Flagging unbacked claims
A product page is leaking trust through assertions with nothing behind them. The prove-it sweep flags every claim that lacks evidence, so you know what to substantiate and what to cut.
Best for
Copy that is nearly right
Sweeps beat rewrites when the argument is sound and the sentences are doing too much work.
Refreshing pages that went stale
There is a dedicated content refresh path, so you are not editing good copy that is simply out of date.
Editing someone else's work
Preserving the author's voice is a stated constraint, which makes the output easier to hand back.
