GEO measurement framework

GEO measurement framework

SEO & AEO
TripleDart
Manoj Palanikumar's framework starts by defining a query set of 50-100 questions, and most GEO reporting skips that step entirely.

What it is.

It names seven metrics: AI search visibility score, brand mention frequency, share of voice, citation rate, sentiment and framing, query coverage breadth, and AI-driven traffic. Raw visibility means little on its own without a competitor to compare against.

Then five steps to put it in place. Define your query set at 50-100 core questions, name five to ten direct competitors, pick your KPIs, set baselines and targets, then decide how often you report.

This is TripleDart's own guide and it names our platform among the trackers. The framework works with any tool that logs assistant answers.

What you get.

  • Seven named metrics with what each one is for.
  • A share of voice formula: your brand mentions over total brand mentions in the query set.
  • A starting query set size of 50-100 questions and a competitor set of five to ten.
  • A monthly spot-check routine on your ten highest-value queries.
  • Context figures, including AI Overviews appearing on 30-40% of queries.
HOW TO USE IT

How to set it up.

1

Write the 50-100 questions your buyers type, and keep them in one sheet.

2

Name five to ten direct competitors, including any AI-native brand that keeps appearing in answers even if you never meet it in a deal.

3

Pick two or three KPIs, because tracking all seven metrics from a standing start produces a report nobody reads.

4

Run the full query set once to get a baseline, before any content changes.

5

Set a target improvement per quarter and keep the query set unchanged, or the numbers mean nothing.

6

Run a monthly spot-check on your ten highest-value queries and note which competitors appear and in what order.

Use cases

Define the query set first

Settle the questions you will track before you report a single number.

Compute share of voice

Divide your mentions by total brand mentions across that same set.

Report the same seven each month

Use the named metrics so the report reads the same way twice.

Best for

Setting a GEO baseline

Before you can report a gain you need one query set that stays put and a first reading, and step one does exactly that.

Reporting to a board

Share of voice against a named competitor set travels better than a visibility score with no denominator.

Choosing a tracker

The metric list gives you the questions to ask a vendor before you buy.

Questions about SEO & AEO

What's the first GEO metric worth having?
How often should AI visibility be measured?
Strengths
  • It starts with the query set, and every other number depends on that one choice.
  • Share of voice is given as a formula, so two people calculate it the same way.
  • It separates citation rate from mention frequency, which get reported as one thing more often than not.
Limitations
  • TripleDart's own guide, and TripleDart sells GEO work, with our platform named among the trackers.
  • The 527% AI referral traffic figure and the 30-40% AI Overview figure arrive without a method, so use them as context only.
  • Seven metrics is more than a small team can maintain, so pick two and add the rest later.
Skip this if
  • Skip it if you already have a query set and a measurement schedule for AI search.
Ideal for
  • SEO leads
  • Growth analysts
  • Stage: Series A onward
