100 category searches on US Google, every top-10 result classified, 973 in total. 81% of page one turned out to be third-party content.

Vendor-owned pages are 18.6% of those results, which works out at about 1.8 slots per search. In 31 of the 100 searches a vendor owns nothing at all.

Reddit threads hold the number one position in 34 of the 100 searches. A vendor product or landing page holds it in 5.
