What it is.

Slate is TripleDart's AEO platform, so this is our own research and it belongs on the page under the same rules as everything else. The run covered 1,000 queries across 40 software categories, US desktop, logged out.

979 of the 1,000 queries returned an AI Overview, citing 9.6 sources on average. In 944 of them, or 94.4%, a page from the organic top 10 was among those citations.

The finding that changes a content plan is where the rest comes from. Only 30% of citations are the exact page that ranks, and two-thirds come from outside the top 10 entirely.

What you get.

  • The trigger rate, with 979 of 1,000 queries returning an AI Overview
  • Average citation count per Overview, at 9.6 sources
  • Top-10 presence at 94.4% of queries, against exact-page citation at 30%
  • The position effect, where the #1 result was cited 490 times against 40 for #10
  • YouTube cited 318 times while ranking only 12, and Reddit cited 292 times
  • A method section so you can rerun the whole thing on your own category

Strengths
  • Ground truth was set in advance, because the organic top 10 was captured alongside every citation.
  • Separates ranking from being cited, which most AI Overview coverage merges into one claim.
  • Publishes the method in enough detail to repeat, including the browser and locale settings.
Limitations
  • This is Slate's own research, and Slate sells AEO software.
  • US desktop and logged out, so localized and signed-in results will differ.
  • One capture window, so seasonal or model-driven movement is not visible in it.
