public-relations

What it is.

It tests whether you have a story, then writes the pitch and the media angle around a trend, a dataset or a conflict, with your product sitting inside it as the evidence.

You get coverage aimed at backlinks, legitimacy and AI-citation surface, and the skill states plainly that a TechCrunch hit will not deliver 1,000 paying customers. There is a skip-it section for when you are not ready, which is cheaper than a retainer.

What you get.

  • A pitch built around a trend, a dataset or a conflict, with your product as evidence
  • A media list and pitch angles matched to the story
  • Reactive PR guidance, where speed beats polish inside the first hour
  • A stated test for whether PR is worth doing at all right now
  • Op-ed and thought-leadership placement angles
HOW TO USE IT

How to set it up.

1

Install with npx skills add coreyhaines31/marketingskills --skill public-relations -a claude-code.

2

Run the worth-it test first. It wants a genuine story, executive time for quotes, and a destination page that converts the attention.

3

Name the story without your product in it. If the sentence needs your product to make sense, you have a press release and not a story.

4

Build the pitch around proprietary data where you have it, because that is the angle journalists take with the least persuasion.

5

For reactive PR, send within the first hour of a story breaking. A B-grade pitch on hour one beats a polished one on day three.

6

Point the pitch at a live destination: a press page, a blog post or a launch. Coverage with nowhere to land is a vanity metric.

Use cases

Pitching proprietary data

You're sitting on numbers nobody else has published. Hand over the dataset; back come a pitch built around it and a media list matched to the story, with your product inside as the evidence.

Reacting inside the hour

A story broke this morning and you have a stake in it. Give it the story and your angle; the pitch comes back built for speed, since hour one beats a polished day three.

Deciding on the retainer

An agency quoted you and you're unsure you have a story. Run the worth-it test; it checks whether you have a genuine story and a destination page that converts the attention, and it says plainly when to skip.

Best for

You have proprietary data nobody has published

This is the strongest PR position available, and the skill is built to turn a dataset into a pitch.

Deciding whether to hire an agency

The when-to-skip section will tell you if you are not ready, which is a cheaper answer than a retainer.

AI-citation surface

Earned coverage on credible domains is one of the inputs answer engines read, and the skill names that as an actual benefit.

What makes a story?
How fast do I need to be on reactive pitches?

Questions about Content & Creative

What makes a journalist reply?
When is PR the wrong choice?
Strengths
  • States what earned media does and does not deliver, in the same paragraph.
  • Has a when-to-skip section, which most PR advice leaves out.
  • Treats speed as the variable that matters on reactive pitches, with the first hour named.
  • Requires a destination page before the pitch goes out.
Limitations
  • It writes the pitch and the list. It has no journalist contact database behind it.
  • Reactive PR needs someone watching the news, which is a staffing problem this cannot solve.
  • Version 1.0.0, so it is newer and less hardened than its neighbors in the library.
Skip this if
  • Skip it if you already have an agency or a comms lead on earned media.
